LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

What does a Dental Laboratory Technician do?

Dental laboratory technicians, often referred to as lab techs, build and repair dentures, crowns, and other dental appliances. They work closely with dentists to ensure dental devices are precise and accurate.

Specifically, if you become a dental lab tech, you’ll:

  • create crowns, bridges, dentures, orthodontic appliances, and other dental prosthetics based on a dentist’s prescription and the patient’s needs.
  • use impressions to design the prosthetics. Expect to sculpt, shape, and manipulate materials to create the final product.
  • work with a variety of materials such as acrylics, ceramics, composite resins, and metals.
  • ensure color matching of the prosthetic to provide as natural of look as possible for the patient.
  • collaborate directly with the dentist to ensure the patients’ needs are being met.
